The most important part of trust is knowing who is authentic. In other words, is the person you are engaging with a real person? Are they who they say they are?
This week we expanded verification to help members and businesses built trust on and off LinkedIn:
*Professionals can help verify each other’s experience to give people another way to build credibility through the people they’ve actually worked or studied with.
*Businesses can protect their brand reputation with more controls over who is associated with their brand, including new tools to address inaccurate employee associations.
*LinkedIn verified identities can travel to more places off LinkedIn, with Truecaller and PeerSpot joining the growing list of ‘Verified on LinkedIn’ partners.

Americans’ anger with fraud in the job search is reaching a fever pitch. Now, LinkedIn is rolling out new tools to help users figure out what is real—and avoid handing over money or their résumés to scammers.
The new levers, which the company plans to release this month, focus on verification, a system through which users can submit government identification and their professional email addresses. In turn, their profiles display a check mark, giving it a sign of authenticity.
The company says it stops tens of millions of fake members who could scam users by posing as recruiters. Still, some slip through the cracks.
The LinkedIn update fills a hole that scammers have used to wrest job seekers’ data and sometimes their cash. Some scammers list themselves as employees of companies where they have never worked. A desperate job seeker might not fact-check that affiliation and, thrilled to be contacted by the purported recruiter, send over her résumé or pay for consulting services to improve her chances at getting a job.

Authenticity is quickly becoming one of the most valuable currencies on the internet and knowing what’s real and who you can trust matters more than ever.
That’s why I’m SO excited about where we’re taking verification at LinkedIn. More than 115 million members are now verified, and we’re building new ways to make that trust more human and useful.
Now people who have actually worked or studied alongside you can help verify those shared experiences. Our professional stories aren’t built in isolation and the people who were there are part of what makes those stories credible!
We’re also helping companies better protect the brands they’ve worked so hard to build by making it harder for bad actors to falsely claim they work there.
